Filtering & Monitoring Devices at Home
Below are some pieces of important information that you should know about using your student device at home. A video explaining these services can be found in at the bottom of this page.
PPS TRACKS DEVICE LOCATION
We utilize a mobile device management system that helps track lost devices. It is not a perfect system, but it might be able to help if a device is lost.
TEACHERS CAN SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING ON STUDENT DEVICES
Teachers have a tool called DyKnow that allows them to view and block what is happening on student devices. Teachers have the ability to view student screens at any time. The tool also allows them to ask questions of students and check for understanding.
PPS FILTERS CONTENT ON STUDENT DEVICES
Our content filtering system is called Lightspeed Relay. It blocks sites by category and works very well at keeping inappropriate content out of reach of our students. Youtube videos are selectively blocked based so students should not be able to access inappropriate videos.
PPS MONITORS STUDENT ACCOUNTS FOR RISKY BEHAVIOR
We utilize two services for this. One service is called Bark and it monitors what is happening in school Google-associated accounts. The service sends notifications to administrators who then act on the information provided.
The second tier of this type of monitoring comes from Lightspeed and creates reports based on internet searches and browser activity.
PARENTAL SUPERVISION IS VITAL
It is very important that parents help school officials monitor student behavior online. None of the services we utilize are perfect, and they cannot replace human observation and conversations. Please talk with your students daily about what they are doing online and help us keep them as safe as possible.
If you have any questions or issues with any of the services outlined above, please contact the Technology Director at 402-385-3244.
